100% Recycled Felt & pillow inserts:
The felt and polyfill inserts that we use are made from 100% recycled PET containers, or plastic bottles. Here are the stages that the bottles go through from the recycling bin to becoming fiber:
Let's do some math!
It takes 10 average sized water bottles to make 1lb of fiber.
Our medium sized pillows weigh 1.6lbs. Which means on average our pillows (complete with their inserts) represent about 16 recycled bottles!
Ready for some serious math?
Based on our current volume, we estimate that we are using 250,000 (thats a QUARTER MILLION) bottles in our products per year.
You can be proud, with every pillow that you buy, to be helping to contribute to that incredible success story.
Alexandra is a gutsy garmento who cut her teeth on the New York fashion runway making clothes for some of the city's top designers.
The company launched in January 2009 with nothing but some free time, a used sewing machine and a wicked pair of scissors. President Obama had just been inaugurated into his first term in office and, as her own personal stimulus package, the first pillow sold said "Yes We Can."
Her best ideas usually happen early in the morning on the East River Drive of Manhattan, testing the bass limit on her car speakers. Other inspiration comes from the simplicity of mid-century modern, the innocence of early American Folk art, and the mystery of a Roy Lichtenstein painting.
These days there isn't very much free time, and the scissors got a little more high-tech, but the same sewing machine still joins every pillow. It's American-made manufacturing from recycled materials that any side of the aisle can be excited about.
